There are many a great duos that the contemporary world has been presented with. Think Beyonce and Jay Z, Bert and Ernie, Daft Punk, Sweet Female Attitude and Sunship, just to name a few. Today, Gallery Records are presenting another, powerhouse, bass and club driven duo, AK SPORTS and Mincy, two local underground legends and community leaders, combining for ‘Rave Again’ an EP to challenge any soundsystem across the globe. The duo each present an original and a corresponding remix, resulting in four percussive and bass driven numbers.

Hosting the A-side is Eora/Sydney born and bred, London and LA based, Balamii radio host, DJ, producer and high energy aficionado AK SPORTS. She delivers the chonky, ‘Flex’, ready to slide directly into her globally renowned DJ sets that feature hard hitting breaks, nostalgic warehouse cuts and the darker tinges of UK inspired garage. ‘Flex’ nods to the traditional tropes of these genres glued together by a tongue-in-cheek donk bassline which sits delicately below euphoric synths and a choppy, sporadic vocal sample. It’s alternative version sees Mincy transform the track's ebb and flow to a consistent, in your face four to the floor romper, representing it as a techno-esque sweat dripping affair.

Just as remix’s outro provides a breath of fresh air for the listener, slams Mincy’s original, ‘Biscuit Inception’ a manifestation of her vast experience as a dance music community member. It includes being label executive of Extra Spicy, she’s shared the stage with the likes of DJ EZ, Flava D, Preditah, Conductah. Rarely does instrumental music require a parental guidance logo, but ‘Biscuit Inception’s’ booming bass line, eerie vocal sample and 90s inspired breaks are not for the faint hearted. If late night warehouse parties have taught us anything, it's that there's always room for more euphoria and AK SPORTS’ FJAAK-esque remix exemplifies this perfectly. Time travel is technically impossible, but the remix’s glitzy piano chords, shaky distorted percussion and an impressive omnipresent kick will vividly teleport the listener back to the 90s.

While the collaborative EP makes sense sonically the duo’s intrinsic connection to community action makes the record even sweeter. Both artists are vast community leaders and advocates of a new era of dance music, one deservedly reclaimed by female identifying artists and communities. Their unapologetic nature in uplifting, representing and solidifying their respective communities are well on show here, packaged as four tracks ready to take over and demand attention in any club environment.
